German Sparkassenstiftung Moldova
In September 2020, the Republic Moldova welcomes the project “Social-ecological transformation of rural areas by improving financial access for climate-adaptive measures in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK), and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In its orientation phase, DSIK established a representative office in Chişinău, German Sparkassenstiftung Moldova, to support micro and small agricultural enterprises (MSE) to develop a resilience to the negative consequences of climate change.
The current project phase started in September 2020 and will run until September 2022.
German Sparkassenstiftung Moldova (DSIK) aims to slow down migration and rural exodus and an improvement of development perspectives of the rural population by a sustainable increase of productivity, income, and employment.
The overall objective is the strengthening of the development potential of rural regions in Moldova by supporting an adequate offer of financial services, especially for investments in climate adaptive measures, as well as the improvement of the financial user competence under the rural population and enterprises (MSE and farmers).
Thus the targets are:
- Financial service provision for micro and small commercial farmers, MSMEs and potential entrepreneurs in rural areas match their need for sustainable, climate-resilient (economic) development.
- Sustainable financial and (further) business training for population groups in rural areas is rolled out systematically.
- The rural population and financial service providers are motivated and able to provide financial offers in a way that allows for investments in sustainable climate resilience.
