EU Integration and Agriculture Forum at TUM

On March 12, 2026, the EU Forum “Current EU Accession Process of the Republic of Moldova – Opportunities & Risks for the Agricultural Sector” was held at the Technical University of Moldova in Chișinău. The event was organized by Sparkassenstiftung Moldova in partnership with the Faculty of Agricultural, Forestry and Environmental Sciences of TUM.

The forum brought together representatives of academia, public institutions, agricultural experts, and international advisors to examine the impact of EU integration on Moldova’s agricultural sector. The keynote presentation by Dr. Martin Struck focused on global agricultural trends, highlighting the growing pressure on food production due to population growth and the need for more efficient use of resources.

Discussions addressed both opportunities and challenges linked to EU accession. Key opportunities include access to the EU single market, potential support through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), adoption of EU standards, and integration into international supply chains. At the same time, participants pointed to structural challenges such as low productivity, fragmented farm structures, weak data systems, and limited access to advisory services.

The forum also explored the ongoing structural transformation of agriculture and emphasized the importance of modernization, innovation, and knowledge transfer to strengthen competitiveness.

The event concluded that Moldova’s agricultural sector must adapt to both EU regulatory requirements and global market dynamics. Continued cooperation between academia, policymakers, and international experts was highlighted as essential for supporting the country’s path toward EU integration.
